Residents of two Dutch residential areas receive a push message during energy peaks asking them to use less electricity. If they manage to do so, they can earn money.
‘Help us to avoid a peak,’ appears on an Arnhem resident’s phone, exactly when he is about to charge his car in the evening. Below the push notification it says: ‘We’re expecting peak charging within the next hour, join a challenge and earn points.’
The electric car owner has a dynamic contract. The wind is blowing hard in the North Sea, which makes the power price low. But in case he decides to not charge his car, he would relieve the local energy grid AND makes money from it.
